Our History
Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery – the D.C. metropolitan area’s first surgery center dedicated solely to the laser treatment of dermatologic conditions – was founded by Dr. Tina Alster in 1990. Co-director, Dr. Elizabeth Tanzi joined the practice in 2001 and Dr. Jennifer MacGregor joined in 2009.
We have helped to develop specialized laser and cosmetic techniques, including trials that helped secure FDA approval for technologies like Fraxel, Thermage, and VelaSmooth. The doctors and all the professionals at the Institute are committed to realizing the outward and inward changes that dermatologic laser surgery can produce. Thousands of patients have been treated successfully at the Institute using the latest in laser technology.
The offices were designed by Hugh Newell Jacobsen, an award-winning architect, in a new modern office tower two blocks away from the White House and convenient to public transportation.
