ARTAS Recipient Sites

Once the hairs are harvested, they are then implanted into the balding or thinning areas of your scalp. The appropriate placement of these hairs is essential when striving for an artful aesthetic result. Our physicians often use a combination (robot and human) approach when creating recipient sites for hair placement.

Depending on your type of hair loss, our physicians may choose to use the ARTAS robot to assist in recipient site creation.  The ARTAS System identifies both existing healthy (permanent) hair as well as miniaturized/vellus hair when making sites. Computer algorithms are used to determine where the recipient sites, while a physician adjusts the hair angles, hair density, hair distribution and hair direction parameters provide a more natural looking result.  Survival and growth rates of the transplanted hair depend on the meticulous creation of these recipient sites. Using the ARTAS system to create recipient sites does require the patient to shave his entire scalp allowing optimal visualization.
