Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP): We recommend PRP for hair loss. The patient’s own Platelet Rich Plasma, or PRP is great for treating hair loss, because PRP has concentrated growth factors that have been shown to promote new hair growth, thicken thinning hair and increase the overall health of the scalp and hair. PRP is a multistep process that involves an in-office blood draw followed by the injections and/or topical application of the patient’s concentrated PRP solution.
PRP is the concentration of platelets and growth factors found in the blood. PRP collection is a multistep process that involves an in-office blood draw, centrifugation, and isolation of the PRP solution. A small amount of blood is drawn and the red cells are separated from the platelet rich plasma. Since the PRP solution is isolated from the patient’s own blood, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction.
PRP has also been shown wound healing, and graft survival during hair transplantation. It can be added to the holding solution of the transplanted grafts and injected into the recipient and donor sites to speed wound healing.
PRP for hair loss is an exciting, new treatment that can help with hair loss and improve hair transplantation results. PRP promotes hair growth by prolonging the growth phase of the hair follicle. PRP delivery to the thinning scalp is performed via injections and/or microneedle-assisted topical application. The treatment is repeated every 2-3 months.
Microneedle Drug Delivery
Microneedling is a method of introducing a controlled wound into the scalp that triggers a release of growth factors, new collagen and elastin. Microneedling also enables improved delivery of medications to the thinning hairs. Microneedling can be used to deliver Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and / or Minoxidil.
