Best Procedures to Get for Better Skin when You Don't Have Time for Downtime

Aging skin can have a host of effects that might cause you to feel self conscious. But you can get your confidence back with any number of specific wrinkle-reducing treatments that won’t require recovery time. And if you’re looking for a quick fix for dull, tired skin or an uneven skin tone, there are some no-downtime options as well.

FDA-approved injectables work in one of two ways. They either utilize trace amounts of a toxin that causes muscle paralysis, or they work to promote the body’s production of natural substances. In the case of the former, the prevention of small muscle contractions temporarily smoothes frown lines and wrinkles around the eyes, brow, and neck. In the case of the latter, the stimulation of substances like collagen can help restore fullness and fill in existing creases.

Botox is one of the injectables that works to paralyze the tiny muscles responsible for wrinkles. Botox injections are usually used on the glabellar lines between the eyebrows or frown lines in the forehead. Occasionally, Botox is used on marionette lines around the mouth or on the sides of the eyes (“crow’s feet”).

As long as your Botox injections are administered by an experienced dermatology professional, you should have minimal to no side effects. Occasionally, a mild headache might occur. Otherwise, within about a week, you will notice the results of the treatment with no downtime required.

Juvederm, on the other hand, is used primarily on the lips, cheeks, and nasolabial folds. This injectable uses hyaluronic acid to promote collagen production that effectively “fills in” creases. These injections can be used on their own or in conjunction with Botox injections. Again, there are minimal to no side effects with no downtime involved. Occasionally, some very mild swelling can occur, but of all the hyaluronic acid fillers, Juvederm has the fewest instances of swelling – making it perfect for first-timers.

Chemical Peels

Not interested in trying injectables? A chemical peel can be the perfect alternative. Regularly receiving chemical peel facial treatments (every six to eight weeks, or as often as your dermatologist recommends) can help drastically reduce the appearance of certain signs of aging – like dark spots. They can also minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines over time.

Chemical peels are fairly quick, surface-level cosmetic treatments that don’t require downtime. The most common side effects are mild redness and flaking for a few days, but this shouldn’t interfere with your day-to-day life. Since chemical peels are specially formulated solutions that can be offered in different depths, talk to your dermatologist about which depth is right for you based on your skin care needs and concerns about downtime.
