Not every decision we make is the right decision for us long-term – and when it comes to tattoos, the permanence of the inky art on your skin might have you feeling anxious. If you’ve gotten one or more tattoos that you just don’t feel you want anymore, there are revolutionary new treatments to finally remove them from your skin for life. The popular and effective PicoWay laser tattoo removal treatment is among them.
The FDA-cleared PicoWay laser is a safe and highly effective permanent laser tattoo removal option. PicoWay is the preferred laser tattoo removal treatment particularly for stubborn or multicolored tattoos. In as few as three to six laser treatments, PicoWay can completely remove a tattoo – taking approximately half the time that other laser tattoo treatments take.
PicoWay can be used on a variety of different concerns, including minimizing wrinkles and fine lines, removing pigmented lesions, and reducing scarring from acne or sun damage. This makes PicoWay a versatile dermatological treatment tool.
PicoWay gets its name from the technology it uses – laser pulse durations each lasting a picosecond (one trillionth of a second). These ultra-short pulses emit extremely forceful laser energy to the affected area on the skin. This results in a photo-mechanical impact within the skin that effectively fractures tattoo ink – or other unwanted pigment particles.
The PicoWay laser utilizes photoacoustic, rather than photothermal, methods. This simply means that the skin is not heated during a PicoWay treatment, meaning burning, scarring, and other damage are not a risk with PicoWay (as opposed to other laser tattoo removal treatments). Instead, the layers beneath the surface of the skin respond to these photoacoustic pulses by producing collagen and elastin – regenerating skin cells and bringing a more youthful appearance to the skin.
PicoWay is a very powerful laser, but it will still take at least the recommended three to six laser treatments, and possibly more. Working with a knowledgeable and experienced provider well-versed in laser tattoo removal will ensure you get the appropriate treatment plan. Each of these roughly 30-minute sessions needs to be spaced out at one to two month time intervals in order to fully fade the tattoo and allow fresh skin cell growth. Therefore, only start PicoWay when you know you’ll be able to complete a full series of treatments for six months to possibly over a year.
Fortunately, because PicoWay doesn’t heat the skin, there is little downtime needed after a treatment. You should be cleared to return to your normal daily activities immediately following a PicoWay treatment session. You will need to leave the treated area covered with a bandage to protect it from the sun.
