Dermal fillers for the face and body have become extremely popular over the last decade. Instead of being reserved for celebrities, everyday people can now have access to injectables that smooth, firm, and plump the skin – providing a more youthful, more attractive appearance. One increasingly popular area to use dermal fillers is on the lips, and there are many brands to choose from so you have plenty of treatment options. Let’s explore what you can expect from a few of them.
Juvederm is a household name in the world of dermal fillers. It’s widely used in dermatology offices and med spas due to its efficacy. Juvederm uses an active ingredient of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally produced in the body to support connective skin tissue – it’s even found in spinal fluid and the eye’s aqueous humor. However, the production of hyaluronic acid diminishes throughout the aging process, meaning that in order to keep production levels high, we may need a little help.
Juvederm is manufactured as a smooth gel. It’s used primarily for lip augmentation and nasolabial folds, and it’s optimal for first-timers since it tends to cause less swelling. When Juvederm is injected into the lips, you might see a bit of swelling or minor bruising at the injection site, but this should subside within one to three days. Within those mere days, the clinical results should start to become apparent! Wrinkles in the lips are smoothed, and folds in the face are diminished. Results typically last for about six months, but could last more or less depending on the patient.
Restylane and Perlane are similar to Juvederm but have some slight differences. Like Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane are non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) fillers. These dermal fillers are composed of small or large particles rather than a gel. The products are harmlessly absorbed into the body over time. These two are not just used on lips but may also be used on hollows in the cheeks and under the eyes, as well as deeper nasolabial folds. Like Juvederm, results are seen within a couple of days and typically last for about six months before needing another treatment.
Kysse is an up-and-comer on the dermal filler market. It comes from the Restylane family of facial fillers, developed specifically for your lips. However, it’s more like Juvederm and less like Restylane in that it’s a smooth gel that fills in vertical lip lines and wrinkles, while the hyaluronic acid within attracts and retains moisture. It has minimal side effects and results have been shown to last up to a year!
