VelaShape™ – Washington D.C.
Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery in Washington, DC offers VelaShape™ which features elōs™ technology that combines Bi-polar Radiofrequency (RF) and Infrared Light Energy with Vacuum and Mechanical Massage to specifically target adipose (fat) tissue. The combination of these energies increases the metabolism of stored energy, increases lymphatic drainage and reduces or shrinks the size of fat cells in the treatment areas. Clinically, the skin’s surface appears more smooth with noticeable cellulite reduction.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is the unsightly lumpy, dimpled (cottage cheese or orange peel) appearance of skin. Cellulite consists of fat deposits that appear primarily on the hips, thighs and buttocks. Cellulite is probably one of the most aesthetically troubling concerns of women – it is estimated that 80% of women over the age of 20 (regardless of their weight or size) are affected by cellulite.
What causes Cellulite?
The skin’s connective tissue surrounds fat cells which are arranged in chambers. The walls of these chambers are called septae. Over time, fat cells increase in size and number and they, along with the accumulation of localized edema (tissue swelling), push the skin’s surface between the septae in an upward direction. This is what creates the lumpy and dimpled skin appearance associated with cellulite.
About VelaShape™ Treatment
VelaShape™ treatments are initially best delivered in a series of 4 (once or twice weekly) sessions. Gradual improvement in skin tone and contour can be expected after a series of 4 treatment sessions, but maintenance treatments are often advocated in order to enhance the results. Maintenance sessions can be delivered singly or in repeat series depending on an individual’s clinical response and preference.
A good treatment candidate should be an individual who is in relatively good physical condition because VelaShape™ is not intended for weight loss.
• The precise heating of the skin during treatment is safe, effective, and fast without postoperative recovery.
Patients can return to daily activities immediately following treatment.
• Gradual smoothing of the skin’s surface is observed after a series of treatments with noticeable reduction in cellulite.
• Circumferential thigh reduction with reshaping of the skin surface is typical.
In a clinical multi-center study, 85% of the treated areas showed reduction of thigh circumference of at least 1cm.
